Biointensive gardening is a type of organic gardening which is used to build/maintain soil fertility through nutrient cycling. It aims at diversified cropping and bio bed preparation on small plots of land, with maximum yield and without any fear of pest outbreaks.

Biointensive Gardening Techniques

First of all, try to go for indigenous crops, such as tomato, pipino, papaya, kamote, spinach, beans, egg plant, jack fruit, corn, jute, lemon grass, etc. After selecting a right type of crop, design the layout of the plot. By following some basic tips

- Fully utilize the soil and space

- Align in rectangular shape and set in the direction of maximum exposure to sunlight.

Keep the soil free from weeds, bushes, thatch, grass clippings, garden wastes etc. Cover the top layer with compost, organic or animal manure. Use double digging technique to prepare the soil bed. Also, sprinkle some earthworms.

Now, wait for about three to four days. After that, plant the seeds by following all the instructions written on the seed pack and water them timely.
