How to sprout beans
Beans are loaded with nutrients like vitamin B, vitamin c and other minerals. You can use beans in several ways stir fry dishes, salads and sandwiches. Fresh sprouted beans are better than canned therefore, sprout your own mung beans or you can also go for variety and try alfalfa seeds, oats, sunflower seeds or garbanzo (chick peas) beans.
In order to sprout beans there is no need of spending your money on sprouter . you can sprout beans at home easily. Here are some tips on how to sprout beans at home;
How to sprout beans:
- Take a 1 or 11/2 quart mixing bowl.
- Keep in mind that most sprouts grow 5 to 6 times their original size therefore, place a layer of beans about two beans thick i.e. 1/4 to 1/2 inch--at the bottom of the bowl.
- Pour warm water to cover the beans.
- Use cheesecloth to cover the bowl and fasten it with a large rubber.
- Let the bowl containing the beans and water stand overnight.
- In the morning, drain the beans and rinse them in tepid water--right through the cheesecloth.
- Now, keep your apparatus moist, but not in standing water.
- Place the bowl in a warm, dark place.
- Rinse them several times a day in order to keep them moist.
- Try to continue this procedure for about 3 to 4 days until the sprouts are tender and have grown to the desired size.
- Be sure to rinse the sprouts before using them.
- Store them in your refrigerator for several days.
